- What are Cookies | Cookie files (hereinafter also "cookies") are IT data sent by a website and stored on users' end devices, such as computers, telephones or tablets. Cookies are most often in text format. The data contained in cookies allow to recognize the user's device and properly display the website. Based on the information contained in cookies, the website will be adapted to the technical specifics of your device. Thanks to this, it will be able to adjust its appearance to the size of the screen and the type and version of the web browser. Cookies also allow to personalize the functionality of websites according to the individual needs of users. For example: they allow the website to be displayed by default in the language of the user. Cookies generally contain the name of the website they come from, their storage time on the end device and a unique number.
- What are cookies for | Below we present typical functionalities supported by the information used by cookies.
- They provide data on the technical specifications of the end device - e.g. a computer, phone or tablet to customize the appearance of the website. As a result, they function properly regardless of the type, model and version of the device and the software used by the user.
- They make it possible to adjust the functionality of websites to the user's needs. For example: they allow you to choose your preferred language, notifications or advertisements.
- They make it possible to optimize the way the websites are used. They save information about the user's choices in the field of advertising profiling, language settings, the browser used, notifications, etc. Thanks to this, the user configures the website only once - instead of at each subsequent visit to the site.
- They facilitate logging in to the user account. They make it possible to switch between subpages on websites without having to log in again on each subpage separately.
- They function as an additional layer of security preventing unauthorized access.
- They enable the collection of statistical data on the basis of which administrators improve their websites. They may concern, for example, the amount of time spent on the website or the frequency with which users use various functionalities. The information collected in this way is then used to improve the structure and content of websites.
- In some cases, cookies make it easier to identify the user whose behaviour contains features of prohibited acts.
- They provide data to help ensure that websites are polished and run smoothly. For example, they enable traffic investigation and the occurrence of distributed denial-of-service anomalies (so-called DDoS attacks).
- They enable the delivery of personalized advertisements. They collect statistics on user interaction with displayed ads, purchase history and search history. Based on this, advertisements for products and services that are more likely to attract your attention may be displayed.

In some cases, however, they may enable the identification of the user - this applies, for example, to cookies that remember login details or payments. In other situations, cookies may make it easier to identify the use by creating its profile. A profile is a set of information that allows to classify a user on the basis of specific characteristics - e.g. how the website is used. This is called indirect identification.
